THE SUN - Sunspots AR 1734, 1739

Sunspot AR 1734

was directly facing Earth when photographed, and has the right magnetic field to produce M-class flares.

Sunspots AR 1734, 1739

1739 erupted on May 3rd and produced an M5 flare that hurled plasma into space at 1300 km/s (watch movie here:http://spaceweather.com/images2013/04may13/limbcme.gif?PHPSESSID=56aklsch94s4uan3qbjo05kfj1 ) . The CME will brush the Spitzer space telescope that is now 180 million km away from Earth and is looking at the sky in infrared (heat detector).
